We support pet owners experiencing homelessness to access vet care and find safe housing with their pet.
Street Paws provides services and support across Yorkshire, The North of England, Northern Ireland and Wales, including cities such as Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Belfast and Cardiff. If you are living outside of our area of work you can use the Homeless Link website to find support in your area.
We know you're going through an incredibly stressful time, and the thought of being separated from your pet can make everything feel even more overwhelming. Whether you're currently homeless or worried about losing your home soon, we're here to connect you with resources that recognise the importance of your animal companion in your life.
Homeless in the North and North East and looking for support?

Most temporary accommodation requires a referral through your local council you can find your local Council here.
If you're in England and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless within 8 weeks, your local council has a legal obligation to help you.
You're considered "legally homeless" if:
You can't access your home (e.g. landlord lockout)
Your home isn't safe due to risk of violence or abuse
Your living conditions are severely inadequate or overcrowded
What Support Can You Receive?
Your council may be able to help with:
Housing advice
Emergency accommodation
Help finding long-term housing
Support to remain in your current home when possible
Our Dog Champions Scheme works with hostels and temporary accommodation providers to increase pet-friendly options.
While we can't provide accommodation or arrange fostering/kennelling directly, we can guide you to services that welcome pets.

Homeless and looking for vet help for your pet?
We work on a referral basis and cannot accept direct requests. If you are in our area, are homeless and need help with accessing vet care please ask your housing support worker to get in touch via the contact us page.
Resident at one of our Dog Champion Scheme Hostels and need vet help?
We can provide preventative care including flea and worming treatment and vaccinations for pets registered with our Dog Champion Scheme. Residents at registered hostels may register up to two pets to benefit from this support.
If you are a resident at a Street Paws Dog Champion Scheme hostel and need to arrange vet care for your pet, make sure they are registered with the scheme and ask a member of staff or your housing support worker to get in touch.
Not homeless but struggling with vet bills?
If you need help with vet care costs and are not homeless or living outside of our area of work you can contact The Dogs Trust, PDSA or Blue Cross all of whom are able to offer free or reduced vet care in certain cases.

With pet food banks located across England and Wales, you can quickly find nutritious food for you and your pet. Use this map to locate your nearest pick-up point.
If you don’t see one near you, we recommend reaching out to your local food bank or council.

Homeless Link helps people find support in their area by providing a directory of local services. Use their search tool to find support in your area.
StreetLink is a website that allows people to alert local outreach teams about someone sleeping rough, so they can offer help and support. It connects people experiencing homelessness to services that can assist with housing, health, and other needs.
Warm Spaces Welcome is a network of community places where people can go to stay warm, meet others, and access support during cold weather. Find your closest warm space here.
If you are struggling to afford food at the moment you can find your nearest food bank here and here. The Trussell Trust network of food banks can provide enough food for three days but you will need a referral from a community organisation. Find out more here.
